Wellspring Program
A transformation is taking place in America’s nursing homes. This movement, termed culture change, is promoting a new way of thinking about quality of care and quality of life for nursing home residents. After decades of being reactionary in their method of delivering services, nursing homes are now being proactive in defining components of care, environment, and life that are unique to high quality long term care.
The Wellspring Program was one of the first efforts to affect culture change and has assisted nursing homes throughout the country in advancing excellence in their settings. The Wellspring Program offers education, guidance, and tools to nursing homes to assist in culture change. Wellspring primarily focuses on strengthening clinical and managerial skills of staff, empowering residents and frontline staff, and creating a high quality of life for residents. One of the strengths of Wellspring is that it enables nursing homes to affect culture change within their existing physical plant and wherever they are along the continuum of change.
Wellspring is based on the core principles that:
- Care decisions need to take place at the level closest to the resident
- A substantial knowledge base is required by all staff to equip them to participate in decision making, and
- An empowered workforce increases resident and employee satisfaction and reduces staff turnover
Through the Wellspring Program, frontline staff receives quality education and is coached on how to collect relevant data, critically evaluate information and implement processes that improve care. Nurse consultants serve as clinical experts to oversee the program and provide implementation guidance and support. Networking among participating nursing homes provides a dynamic experience of sharing and encouragement.
Research has demonstrated that Wellspring improves the quality of care, resident satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and more. Evidence supports that Wellspring makes good business sense.
The Wellspring Program has expanded its services to offer more options for nursing homes to participate. Spend a few minutes learning about the Wellspring Program and see the benefits for you and your nursing home.
